Sukatus jatkuu

Sisäinen sukanneulojani on tyytyväinen.

I'm one happy sock knitter. Our new home has a nice couch where I can sit and knit socks while listening to audio books. These are only a few of the finished pairs of basic socks - I knit so many of them that I don't even bother to list them all on Ravelry. The Ranco socks on the left are unfortunately no longer in use since I didn't read the label before washing them and I managed to felt them.

Tuftauskurssi

I took a tufting class at local handcraft center and I made this small piece for our walls. The course took one day and it was long enough to make this small wallpiece. I liked the technique, but the tools are unfortunately rather expensive to buy to make one or two pieces. The leaf in the picture is still unfinished, I promise I'll publish a picture of it cut and framed once it is done.

Vuoden kolmas Ulla

Vuoden kolmas Ulla on viimein julkaistu.

We finally finished and published the third issue of Ulla for the year 2009. Latest issue is filled with lovely pattern, some designed by me. In the picture above are Indil-mittens. The other pattern is Tassunjäljet, pawprint mittens.

Valmis laukku - Finished bag

Ohje: Felted Stained Glass Fan Bag

Pattern: Felted Stained Glass Fan Bag
Yarn: Noro Kureyon colour 52 and Garnstudio Drops Alaska, black

I finished the felted bag finally. The bag has been great, I've used it at the office, when shopping, looking for geocaches... pretty much anywhere. The size is great, but I think if I make another I'll leave out two more rows of fans. This one had more than 300 ends to sew in! (Pattern instructed to finished them in another way but I was stubborn)

Valmis ylämaan huivi

Valmista. Lankana Esiton huopalankaa, 300-400 g arviolta (kaikenlaisia nurkissa pyörineitä irtokeriä, jonka vuoksi huivikin on kaksivärinen). Malli on Cheryl Oberlen kirjasta Folk Shawls, nimeltään Highland triangle shawl.

Finished, at last. This is knit with Esito Huopalanka, about 300 - 400 grams of it. It is the Highland triangle shawl from Cheryl Oberle's Folk Shawls.

Tour de Fleece week 2

(Vain englanniksi tällä viikolla, olen sairaana enkä jaksa ajatella asiaa kahdella kielellä)
Last weekend I finally decided to dye some wool for myself. I have quite a lot of white basic wool in my closet (for example 1 kilo of shetland) and I wasn't feeling like spinning white 3-ply quite yet.
This one is interesting, it is by Novita, a Finnish yarn manufacturer. It is Hahtuvainen and meant for felting but I wanted to try to spin it, so I got out my pure white version of it and dyed it to make things more interesting.

Result is rather lovely. Spinning the Hahtuvainen was really easy and the yarn is quite pleasing. It is not as soft as some merino and polwarth I've touched, but there is nothing wrong with it either.
This is the blue faced leicester from the top picture. The sheen is real and the wool is lovely and it practically spins itself without any predrafting. (I did predraft this though since I was watching TV while spinning the yarn).
This is what you get when you try to learn to spin thick yarn. I've still a new spinner since all I manage to spin pleasingly is quite thin yarn. My attempts at thicker singles are rather uneven, in all possible ways.

Some lilac merino I got as a Christmas present from Villasatu. The top was almost solid and I love the resulting yarn.

This is some more of he dyeing works of last weekend, I wonder when I'll finish all of these?

Luumu oli kukassa jo äitienpäivänä. Kevät tuli mukavan ajoissa tänä vuonna ja viime viikot olen kulkenut ympäriinsä kuunnellen lintuja ja hymyillen leveästi auringonpaisteessa.

The plun tree was flowering already on Mother's day. I love this spring, it was early enough and I've been walking around smiling and listening to the birdsong that prevails the landscape.
Yaku sai myös alustan. Viimein riittävän iso alusta kissallemme! Tämä on neulottu kaksinkertaisella Garnstudio Alaskalla onteloneuletekniikalla.

Yaku's new sleeping blanket is also done finally. At last something that our cat fits on! This is doubleknit with Garnstudio Alaska doubled (so maybe it is quadrupled?).

Kevät!

Kevät! Kevät! Kukkia! Lämpöä!

(Mildy crazed happiness about the spring finally reaching here.) It was warm enough today to walk barefoot on the rocks heated by the sun.

Socks were left behind when the happy knitter ran around the cliffs barefoot. It is time for Spring Sock contest, that is "How many pairs of socks the knitter will finish (me, including weaving in the ends) by the end of 2008". Leave your answer by Sunday 4.5.. There will be little something (don't know yet what) for the closest guess. A place to check out for hints is for example this blog and Ravelry, but I will have to tell you that there has been a lot of socks this spring. Leave the answer in the blog message, answers without any contact information (blog address or email or suchlike) will be disregarded.

Pikkuneuleita

Lankana Twilley's of Stamford Freedom Spirit väri 512 ja Garnstudio Drops Alpaca kaksinkertaisena, värinä tumma violetti.

I've knit a pair of these mittens for a swap and I just had to have a pair for myself in my colours. I'm calling these "Little-Päivyt" mittens since the pattern on the back of the hand is similar, only simpler because of less stitches. These are kniit with Twilley's of Stamford Freedom Spirit in colour 512 and Garnstudio Drops Alpaca doubled in dark violet.

This is my first ever yoke sweater. It took a whopping 88 grams of yarn (left overs measured approximately 3 meters). The darker yarn is Noro Kureyon 152 and the other one is SandnesGarn Smart doubled in natural white. I hope this will fit a largeish baby doll, but since I don't own one it needs to be tested.

Talvi tulossa

Lankaa meni 250g, lanka on Manor-tavarataloketjun omaa villalankaa. Lanka on melko paksua enkä pingoittanut tätä huivia, kunhan kostutin ja oioin. Ehkä pingotankin vielä.
The story of our travels in Switzerland is still unwritten, but most of the yarn has been knit. This shawl took 250 grams of Manor-department store's own wool. It is quite thick so this hasn't been blocked, just straightened when wet.

The Jaywalkers are also done, they've been in progress from approximately last January.

Lankana lapasissa on Esiton huopalanka.

A friend practically gave my a series of craft books and I immedialetly started this pair of mittens from it. It is called "Mittens from Pohjanmaa" which is a region in Eastern Finland. The yarn I'm using is by Esito and it is called "Blanket yarn" since it is meant for weaving blankets but it suits knitting just fine.

Syystakkini

Palmikkotakkini on valmis, se valmistui jo melkein viikko sitten, kuvia on vain pitänyt odotella sillä tummansininen lanka vaatii valoa kuvattaessa.

Malli: Oma / Pattern: own
Lanka: Garnstdio Alaska 24 kerää / balls

My cabled autumn cardigan is done, it was finished a week ago. All I needed was to get the photos, since the dark blue yarn isn't very co-operative to photograph.

Skewed order

My circular needles have for a long time been lying around the house. In my knitting baskets (yes, plural since I have one my the couch and one by the desk), in drawer, on my desk and most recently mostly stuck into an innocent ball of yarn. Problem is that on the ball of yarn they are a total tangle and the cords are out there for my cat to chew (yes, he really loves to play with my circular needles). I decided to sew this for my needles and it seems to work just fine, even if it is a bit more than little skewed.

Sockapalooza done!

This is basically the sockapalooza-package I sent out on Thursday. I couldn't tranfer photos from my camera to computer for a while so I seem to be out of decent finished sock pics. I hope my pal will photo these once she gets them! Socks are knit with Colinette Jitterbug Velvet Leaf. There is a little notebook with Moomin characters on them - they've been favourites in Finland for a few generations now. There is also a small bracelet with glass beads, silver beads and Karen Hill tribe silver toggle. I hope my pal will like this.

Lomalta paluu

Blogin voisi ajatella lomailleen näin samalla kuin minun. Olen saanut valmiiksi elämässäni ison projektin, Gradun. Uusi Ullakin julkaistiin. Ohje tulee tulevaisuudessa, varmaankin syysullassa ellei jotain dramaattista tapahdu.

I've recently finished many projects. One of the biggest of them is my Master's thesis that is now done, graded and entered in my records at the University. I'm happy. I've been vacationing and clearing my thoughts now for a few weeks, since the thesis was a big project. I've also gotten a lot of knitting finished: the green sweater (it got all messy, but that is subject for another post), a hat, socks and the vest above. My DH is really happy about it, it fits him well and I'm hoping to publish the pattern in autumn Ullaneule. If there is interest, I might translate it afterwards. Anyhow, I'm back in business, cheers and what ho and what else Bertie would say.

Vehreää

Nämä sukkaset ovat viimein valmiit. Lankana on Sandnesgarn Smart, meni yhteensä 100g lankaa lyhyisiin nilkkamittaisiin sukkiin. Tarkoitus on käydä kuvaamassa vielä kauniimpia kuvia näistä kunhan säät sallivat ja sitten lopulta kirjoittaa ohjekin ullaan.

These socklets are finally done. They are knit with Sandnesgarn Smart, 100 grams spent almost to the last meter for these short socks. I'm planning to take a better pictures of them once the weather is good enough to go outside again and then write the pattern.

This is one of our walking irises (Neomarica northiana). They have been flowering now for a few weeks, this is the second flower for this plant. The flowers only last a few hours though.

Elossa ollaan

Kaikenmoista kiirettä on pitänyt, toivottavasti voin kertoa lisää ja tarkemmin jo lähiviikkoina . Tässä odotellessa olen viihdyttänyt itseäni lankaostoksilla, kuvassa vasemmalta vastapäivään (eli alakautta) Onlinen bambusukkalankaa, Onlinen perussukkalankaa, Knitpicksin Glossia (tätä on yksi villapaidallinen), Knitpicksin memories, Onlinen yksiväristä luonnonvalkoista sukkalankaa ja keskellä Noron Silk Gardenia.

I wish I can soon tell why I've been so busy lately. Anyhow, I've acquired some new yarn (from left, going counter-clockwise) Online bamboo sock yarn, basic Online sock yarn, Knitpicks Gloss (a whole cardigan's worth of it actually), Knitpicks Memories, white Online sock yarn and Noro Silk Garden in the middle.

Uusi kesälaukkuni, mallia UFF-Sisters ja Zeska design -mallistosta, eli ostin vanhat farkut, jotka näkyvät edellisessä kuvassa pohjalla ja niistä ompelin itselleni kesälaukun. Laukussa on vuori Marimekon Ananas-kankaasta, vetoketjutasku ja vetoketju päällä.

This bag is from Zeska design's spring collection, made from jeans bought in a second-hand store. I sew a lining, a zipper pocket and a zipper to the top of it. So far, I love it .

Jotain valmistakin, ensi talveksi perus feather and fan -kaulaliina mohair-viskoosista ja pari paria villasukkia, jotka on kuvattu käytettyinä (koska en hetivalmiina tai suoraan pesusta kuitenkaan muista kuvata niitä).

Some finished items, the scarf is basic feather and fan pattern with lovely mohair-viscose -blend and few pairs of socks (here they are photographed dirty and used since I never seem to remember to take a picture straight off the needles or out of the washing machine). The pink socks are my contribution to project spectrum.

Hetki - Moment

Hetki aikaa, 250 grammaa Vahvaa Pirkkalankaa ja pieni inspiraation jyvänen riittivät. Valmiina siis huivi "Hetki", ohjeen kirjoitan kunhan kokeilen muutamaa asiaa vielä.

Only a moment, 250 grams of quite thick wool and little sprinkle of inspiration was all that it took. I finished "Moment" shawl, I'll write the pattern (at least in finnish) evetually, I just need to test few more things.

I fear no curses

Villapaita miehelleni. Tähän meni aavistuksen vajaa 500 g Novitan Floricaa kaksinkertaisena. Koko on jossain S/M, olisi voinut olla vähän pienempikin. Kirouksia odotellessa menen jatkamaan huiviani että ehtisi hamsterikuussa valmiiksi. Vinkkejä tällaiseen paitaan löytyy raglanohjeesta. Ainoa suoranainen muutos oli kasvattaa V-aukon silmukoiden lisäystahtia.

A sweater for DH. It took about 500 g of Novitas thin 2-ply Florica held double. I think the size is somewhere around S/M, could have been a little smaller. Whilst waiting for the curse to land on me, I'm going to finish of my shawl. Hints for knitting a sweater like this can be found in the raglan pattern. Only real and large change I made was to change the addition of stitches in the v-neck to every right side row instead of every fourth row. Luckily I did it, since otherwise you would have been able to see his belly button in this.
